Choosing a Collision Repair Facility...
When it is time to choose a repair facility to care for your vehicle, it all comes down to a matter of trust. Having your vehicle damaged is unpleasant enough without the additional worry of wondering whether the repair work will be accurate and reliable. Here at Gilson's Auto Body Shop we want to give you the peace of mind that comes from knowing that your vehicle is in capable hands, and the assurance that it will be completely restored to its original performance and beauty.
Integrity is the difference between a vehicle that performs like new and one that just looks like it. Though we meticulously restore your vehicles original factory appearance, we are committed to delivering more than just a "cosmetic makeover." We will repair your vehicle so it once again meets factory specifications. Once the repairs are completed, you can be as confident of your vehicle's performance as you were the day you bought it.
Once your vehicle is as good as new again, we want to make sure you are happy with the services performed. Each person who played a part in restoring your vehicle is dedicated to quality results. If we fail to meet your expectations, please let us know.
Meet The Team : Angie Herrera, Office Manager
" Getting in an accident is stressful but I am here to help make this process as seamless as possible. From your first interaction with us to handing you the keys at the end, I am here to assist you in any way I can. I love that we are a family owned and operated business that makes each customer feel more than just a number."
UNDERSTANDING THE REPAIR PROCESS
Once you have decided to repair your vehicle with Gilson's Auto Body we will set up an appointment for you to drop off.
This is a great time to contact your rental car company, if needed, to set a reservation.
If your insurance is sending an Adjuster to write an estimate we are happy to assist in this and can schedule the adjuster to come to the shop directly.
Drop Off/Check In
We know you live a busy life so we do everything we can to make this as simple and quick as possible.
Office staff will have you sign authorizations to repair, do a walk around with you and your vehicle to note any previous damage and we will tag your keys.
Vehicle Tear Down
"Tear down" is an industry term that is used in reference to one of our technicians removing the damaged parts to reveal any hidden damage. A supplement will be generated and issued to your insurance if more damage is discovered.
Keep in mind, any hidden damages require scheduling the insurance company to re-inspect and ordering additional parts if needed. If you are not using insurance, office staff will contact you before proceeding.
If no hidden damage is found the repair will continue as was planned on the preliminary estimate.
As soon as the repairs are authorized and the vehicle is disassembled, the necessary parts to fix your vehicle will be located and ordered. Repairs will begin immediately once the parts arrive.
The repairs and parts fitting are done by our highly skilled, professional body repair technicians. Some of the things the repair technician might do during the repair include:
- Paint less dent removal (PDR) from hail damage
- Replacing badly damaged parts/panels
- Fitting the new parts and panels to align with adjacent panels
- Remove dents with a dent puller or by "hand-hammering" and using specialized fillers to thinly fill in the worked area to create a smooth work surface on the metal.
- The technician may be required to cut out and then weld supports or panels back on the vehicle.
Color Match Paint
One of the most crucial aspects of the paint process is the color match. Our certified paint technicians use state of the art color matching technology to make an accurate color match. After we have achieved the correct variance of color through tinting the paint is applied in the paint booth.
Apply Primer Sealer
Technicians will begin the refinish process by applying a primer.
Surfaces that were repaired are sanded to proper smoothness, washed and moved into the paint booth. The technician will then “mask off" and spray with primers and sealers.
Prepare Vehicle for Paint
Once dry the primered surfaces are sanded again and checked for a smooth surface. The “wet sanding” is done with very fine sand paper and water to give the perfect smooth surface prior to paint. New parts will also need to be “scuffed” to ensure the paint will adhere.
The paint process has many steps from the sealers and primers sprayed on during the preparation process to the basecoat and clear. The basecoat layer is the color.
Gilson's uses base coatings that won't fade, keeping the color of your vehicle looking just like new.
The clear coat is the top coating layer and it protects all other layers from nature's elements. It also gives your vehicle that shine.
After the appropriate dry time the clear coat is applied and heated to cure the finish.
Your vehicle will be reassembled by one of our professional repair technicians. He will install all the components back on to the vehicle ensuring proper panel alignment and replacing any safety features that are required such as one of the many airbags that come as standard equipment on all vehicles.
Quality Control and Test Drive
The vehicle is taken for a test drive to verify an alignment is not needed.
The alignment reveals if there are damages to suspension parts causing the vehicle to be out of alignment.
Gilson's also has state of the art warning light diagnostic screening. If a safety indicator is revealed the dealer may need to “reset” the vehicle computer to recognize the newly installed safety equipment.
Wash Vacuum and Detail
Our detail technician will hand wash the outside of your vehicle, clean the interior and polish repaired panels.
The estimate is reviewed one last time for accuracy and to verify payment confirmation has been received.
The vehicle will go through a final inspection to ensure the vehicle is returned to its pre-accident condition and is ready for you to pick up.
Call to confirm pick up
Throughout your entire repair process, our office staff will continually give you updates on your vehicle and when your vehicles goal delivery date is.
Once the vehicle passes our final inspection we will call you to confirm the Pick up date and time and give you any balances still due if any.
Your vehicle is returned to you and is back to its original manufactured specifications.
We are a family owned and operated business for 19 years. Come back to us with any concerns or with your next repair!! We always appreciate reviews on your experience with us as well!!
